What keeps water from shooting over the Elko®
GuttaGard™?
The physical laws governing the action of water running alongside a
glass-namely surface tension - is the same principle used in the design
of Elko® GuttaGard™. Certified testing has shown that the panel
can divert as much as 6 inches of rain per hour. Most areas of the
country experience 35-45" inches of rain per year.
Can anything get into the gutter with the Elko®
GuttaGard™ on top?
Some small debris will find its way into the opening underneath.
What little debris does enter generally washes away in subsequent
rainstorms. We recommend that the downspout area be periodically
checked for possible debris collection. This can be easily done by
observing the flow at the base of the downspout. If water is shooting out,
every thing is OK. Installing a larger downspout (3x4 instead of the
standard 2x3) will greatly eliminate clogs.
How does Elko® GuttaGard™ work with ice damming?
Elko® GuttaGard™ will not prevent ice build-up. Since snow
cannot get into the gutter, it does prevent build-up form forming inside
the gutter. However, you may experience icicles outside the gutter
because the panel is keeping the ice from forming inside.
Can Elko® GuttaGard™ be used on roofs besides
asphalt shingle roofs?
Elko® GuttaGard™ has been successfully installed on cedar shake,
slate, and cement tile roofs (we recommend extra care be taken).
In some cases, the upper edge of the panel has to be trimmed or notched
out to avoid nails near the eave. Also the panels work well on
steep roofs.
